just popped up in me local news

looks like the older brother of the max the 737 NG had similar problems to the max... single sensor making the autopilot go wonky was in part to blame for turkish airlines going down on schiphol (hehehesorry..its early)

pressure from the us and boeing got the local authorities to mostly leave that shit out of the official report tho

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

maybe manufacturers shouldnt get a say in wether or not their plane has issues?

(also not surprised the dutch rolled over in order not to piss off the us of powers that be)

Don’t forget the rudder PCU issues that date back to the beginning of the 737: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_737_rudder_issues   Once again, a single point of failure that, well, failed.

The 737 was designed as a simpler, lower-cost aircraft, and it seems that some design decisions towards that end have come  back to bite them. Not helping is the change in management culture after the McDonnell Douglas acquisition, moving away from a being a company that was seemingly run by engineers to one that is dominated by the ubiquitous bean counters, the same mentality that lead to the downfall of MDD IMHO.

i didnt know about the rudder issues...

but tbh.. for the moment im a little more bothered by outside pressure being able to change official crash reports.... i thought those were sposed to be impartial and trustworthy because of said impartiality...

Of course to put it in context, unlike with the 737 MAX, the 737 NG has an extensive operating history, so we know (or at least have good reason to believe) that this issue does not introduce a lot of risk.

Still not good if Boeing tried to cover it up (and worse if they succeeded)

Self-reporting without critical external review ? What could go wrong?
